Board Packaging Market is poised to witness robust growth as Mondi plc enters into partnership with Carto to enter the fresh produce segment with a new avocado box

Board Packaging

Board packaging, also referred to as corrugated cardboard packaging, is a durable but inexpensive packaging option for all types of products. It provides superior protection from damage and ensures the product's safety throughout transport. Many times, it's used to protect fragile or valuable products from damage while in transit. Corrugated boxes made with low-density polyethylene or LDPE are suitable for storing all types of goods including groceries, dry cleaning supplies, paints, rubber parts, medical devices, and household items. Board packaging has gained a significant position in the packaged food industry. The demand for convenience food has increased rapidly over the years, in both developed and emerging economies. As per the Food and Drink Federation, the U.K., the food and drink manufacturing sector accounts for 17% in terms of economic contribution. Furthermore, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), the food processing industry contributed 14% of the country’s GDP in 2016. Furthermore, as the working women population increases, the demand for convenience food products increases at the same pace. As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of employed women in the U.S. reached 75.9 million in 2018, increasing from 53.6 million in 1990. Board packaging plays a massive role in the above-mentioned sector, which can accelerate growth of the board packaging market.

Another key sector where board packaging has witnessed massive adoption is the cosmetic sector. Different cosmetic products required robust packaging solutions so that they do not get damaged during transportation and also due to sunlight. Board packaging has proven to be an adequate solution for such challenges, which could stimulate growth of the board packaging market in the near future. That being said, the recent technological evolutions have presented various high-performance substitutes for board packaging such as eco-friendly plastics, recycled plastics, and recycled cardboard and paper. Such alternative solutions are impeding growth of the board packaging market significantly.

The benefits of corrugated box packaging include improved durability and increased storage space, greater protection against moisture and air damage, environmental protection due to the reduction of waste, and reduced handling costs. For small to medium-sized goods, this packaging option is an ideal way to ensure that the goods reach their customers. With the right packing, goods can be safely stored away without the risk of damage or loss. Developed countries such as the U.S. are witnessing a high surge in demand for board packaging since consumers are increasingly becoming aware of eco-friendly products. Besides, the government in the U.S. is advocating the use of environmental-friendly packaging materials, which could accelerate regional board packaging market growth in the near future.

Recently, in February 2020, Mondi plc, a paper manufacturer partnered with Carto, a Mexican corrugated packaging provider, to enter the fresh produce segment with a new avocado box.
