Listeria monocytogenes, is a gram positive, intracellular, facultative anaerobic, ubiquitous bacterium which causes infections known as listeriosis. Listeriosis spreads by consumption of contaminated food, such as cheeses, raw or unpasteurized milk, ready-to-eat meats, processed vegetables, foods, and smoked fish products.
