Masimo Corporation received CE marking for its Radius Capnography for Latin America capnography equipment market
Capnography,
a process, and technology of measuring the pressure of air against body tissues
or the patient are used for many medical imaging procedures. This medical
imaging uses non-invasive methods to provide vital signs and diagnoses. Most
commonly, it is utilized in emergency medicine, but now the technique is also
used in pediatric, adult, and pediatric specialties. Capnography equipment
includes non-invasive monitors such as the non-contact digital endoscope (NCD),
digital probe-tip cannula attached to a flexible tube (flexible tube supplies
blood flow), non-contact ultrafiltration probe coupled to a camera
(cartographic camera supplies high-resolution imagery), or the high-frequency
ultrasound reader. The three types are applicable in various situations: for patient
safety, for cardiology or oncology, for pulmonary medicine, and for orthopedic
procedures.
The
growing prevalence of asthma in the region is driving the growth of the Latin
America capnography equipment market. For instance, according to The Global Asthma
Report 2018, the prevalence of asthma symptoms was 23%, and the prevalence of a
medical diagnosis of asthma 12% in Brazil. Also, increasing cases of COPD are
also expected to propel the growth of the Latin
America capnography equipment market. According to the study ‘Chronic
Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Latin America’, published in January 2019 in
the journal Annals of Global Health, the prevalence of COPD in Latin American
cities ranged between 6.2 and 19.6% in individuals aged 40 years and above.
Furthermore,
an increasing number of cosmetic procedures in the region will further support
the growth of the market. According to The International Society of Aesthetic
Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) 2018, Brazil has the second-highest number of cosmetic
procedures in the world.
Expanding
medical tourism industry in the region is expected to provide potential growth
opportunities to the market in the near future. According to the study,
‘Medical Tourists: Incoming and Outgoing, published in January 2019 in the
American Journal of Medicine, Mexico is among the top 10 destinations for
medical tourism.
