Flavor house Firmenich has launched its new biotechnology pilot plant to expand its presence in the global bio-tech flavor market
Growing
demand for processed and convenience food is significantly propelling the
growth of the bio-tech flavor market. High demand for biotech flavor from among
health-conscious consumers as it offers various health benefits is again
fostering the growth of the market. Moreover, key players are adopting various
growth strategies in the market such as mergers and acquisitions to expand
their business on a regional as well as a global basis is one of the major
trends. For instance, in September 2019, BASF acquired aroma biotech innovation
leader Isobionics and partnered with Conagen to advance the technology for
biotech-based aroma ingredients by combining its own R&D excellence and
broad market access with the know-how and expertise of Isobionics and Conagen.
1. In October 2020, Flavor house
Firmenich has launched its new biotechnology pilot plant and laboratory in
Geneva, Switzerland
2. In March 2020, Evolva has entered
a new collaboration agreement with International Flavors and Fragrancies (IFF),
a global creator of taste, scent, and nutrition for consumer products, to
further develop and expand commercialization of vanillin
Bio-Tech
Flavor is an alternate way of getting an authentic flavor from natural sources
without undergoing any harsh process. The traditional method of getting flavor
from natural resources usually involves the extraction of the flavor by using
specialized micro-organisms and enzymes. But the flavor extracted may not be
authentic. Using this method, a natural extract is made and then processed into
the right flavor profile that is desired by the customers. Bio-Tech Flavor uses
the special enzymes of plants as an effective alternative to synthetic
ingredients in flavor extraction. There are no chemical agents used during the
process of making Bio-Tech Flavor. All the essential and beneficial ingredients
are derived from the plants themselves; thus there is no compromise on the
purity of the flavor. The natural microorganisms present in the Bio-Tech Flavor
use their natural enzymes to break down the organic molecules of the artificial
flavors and thereby generate flavors of the highest quality.
North
America is expected to hold the dominant position in the global bio-tech
flavor market and this is accredited to the expanding food &
beverage industry in the region. According to the United States Department of
Agriculture, in 2019, food and beverage manufacturing plants accounted for 15.8
percent of the value of shipments and 14.7 percent of all employees from all
U.S. manufacturing plants. Moreover, there are many food and beverage
processing establishments (plants) in the United States- 36,486, owned by about
31,401 companies in 2017.
