Berger Paints has entered into a partnership with Japan-based Chugoku Marine Paints (CMP) for dimer acids market
Increasing
demand for bio-based chemicals across the various end-use industry is driving
the growth of the dimer acids market. Dimer acid is mainly produced from raw
materials such as Tall Oil Fatty Acids (TOFA) and Vegetable Oil Fatty Acids
(VOFA), such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil, cottonseed, etc. Rapid growth in the
inks and coatings industry due to the growing number of partnerships and
collaboration among key players around the globe is projected to augment the
market growth of dimer acid. For instance, in April 2017, Berger Paints has
entered into a partnership with Japan-based Chugoku Marine Paints (CMP). This
also marks its entry into the marine paints segment.
The
Asia Pacific is expected to gain significant growth in the global dimer
acids market over the forecast period and this is attributed to the
increasing demand for dimer from the automotive industry for the production of
corrosion inhibitors. India Brand Equity Foundation, India became the fourth
largest auto market in 2018 with sales increasing 8.3 percent year-on-year to
3.99 million units. It was the seventh-largest manufacturer of commercial
vehicles in 2018. Also, the growing demand for dimer from oil field drilling
muds from the oil &gas industry in the region is again fostering the
regional market growth.
Dimer
acid, or diatomaceous earth, is a fossil preparatory material that contains a
number of nitrogen-bearing molecules that are fused together with other
elements at high temperatures. It was synthesized in the 1980s from fossils and
ancient wood species. It is a solid, heat-resistant, low melting, white powder.
It is commonly found in petroleum refineries, natural gas plants, coal mining
operations, and fertilizer plants. Dimer acid is also used for manufacturing
plastic bottles, synthetic coatings for metal foils and paper, and as an
antifreeze.
Dimer
acid, also known as literates, are acylated polyimide bonds that are formed
when polymerization occurs. The material's stability depends upon the length of
time that the polymerization process goes on, the temperature at which it is
synthesized, the molecular weight of the polymerizing reaction, and the ambient
temperature and humidity in the area where the materials are being synthesized. Dimer acid is also used to create a range of other
products, including floor coatings, as an antifungal, a flame retardant, and as
an antimicrobial, and antifungal and antibacterial agent.
Major players active in the global
dimer acid market are BASF SE, E I du
Pont de Nemours & Company, Monsanto Company, Bayer AG, The Dow Chemical
Company, Syngenta AG, and Nufarm Limited
