Asia Pacific is expected to dominate the natural zeolites market due to increasing construction industry in the region
The
Asia Pacific is estimated to gain significant growth over the forecast period
and this is attributed to the high demand for natural zeolites from the
construction industry due to increasing construction activities in the region.
According to the India Brand Equity Foundation, The infrastructure sector has
become the biggest focus area for the Government of India. India plans to spend
US$ 1.4 trillion on infrastructure during 2019-23 to have a sustainable
development of the country. Recently, India and Japan have entered into a
partnership for infrastructure development in India's Northeast states and are
also setting up an India-Japan Coordination Forum for Development of Northeast
to undertake strategic infrastructure projects for the region.
Natural
zeolites are the original version of this miracle mineral that was used by our
ancestors for thousands of years. Back then, people believed that stones with
this property could improve memory, curing any form of the disease, and even
bring about an increase in longevity. Over the years, researchers have come to
recognize that the real properties of zeolites are more than just anti-aging compounds.
Now they are widely used in the construction, wastewater treatment, improving
soil fertility, and many more applications. They are also used in the animal
feed industry in producing feeds for pets.
Rising
demand for lightweight concrete in the construction industry is a key factor
facilitating the growth of the natural
zeolites market. Natural zeolites are used as a lightweight concrete as it
offers less thermal expansion, enhanced fire resistance, and better sound
absorption properties. Emerging water treatment applications and soil amendment
are again positively shaping the growth of the natural zeolites market. Natural
zeolites stop the nitrification of ammonium to nitrate which reduced the
nitrate leaching and also promotes the growth of the plant by enriching the
soil. Moreover, natural zeolites exhibit ion-exchange property which enables
absorption of heavy metals during wastewater treatment. This is the best option
for the water purification and separation process in the water treatment plant.
In 2017, 8 companies in the United States operated 11 zeolite mines and
produced an estimated 79,000 tons of natural zeolites, an 8% increase from that
of 2016.
Key Developments:
1. In March 2021, Cerberus Capital
Management, L.P. and Koch Minerals & Trading, LLC (“Koch”) announced a
partnership to acquire the PQ Performance Chemicals business of PQ Group
Holdings Inc. for around $1.1 billion. PQ Performance Chemicals is a leading
global producer of sodium silicates, specialty silicas, and zeolites.
