Increasing Production of Paints and Coatings and Increasing Number of Textile Shipments to Augment Growth of Plastisols Market
Plastisol
is a suspension of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or other polymer particles in a
liquid plasticizer. It is an
exciting new polymer that provides both UV protection and anti-fungal
properties for a wide range of applications in plastics. It is also used in the
drying process for final manufacturing. Because plastisol has a high
melt-to-lubrication ratio, it tends to produce very good lubrication with
low-fat formulations, although some oil-based lubricants are sometimes more
acceptable if they are mixed in with the polymer. It is also a good anti-fungal
and antibacterial agent for curing yeast infections of all kinds.
Market Dynamics
Increasing
production of paints and coatings is expected to propel growth of the global
plastisols market. For instance, according to American Coatings Association,
the production of paints and coatings in the U.S. was pegged at 1.35 billion
gallons in 2019, registering a value of US$ 25.7 billion, compared to 1.33
billion gallons valued at US$ 24.9 billion in 2018.
Increasing textile
shipment is expected to offer lucrative growth opportunities for players in the
global plastisols market. For instance, according
to National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO), 2018 state of the U.S.
Textile Industry Address, in 2017, the value of U.S. man-made fiber and
filament, textile, and apparel shipments totaled an estimated US$ 77.9 billion,
an increase from US$ 74.4 billion in output in 2016 and an increase of 16%
since 2009.
Among
end-use industries, the automotive segment is expected to witness decline in
the global plastisols
market, owing to decreasing demand for automobiles. For instance, according
to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the new car registrations in
the U.K. decreased by 44% in March 2020 compared that in March 2019.
Among regions, North
America is expected to witness significant growth
in the global plastisols market, owing to increasing number of housing units in
the region. For instance, according to The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development, in 2019, an estimated 1.290
million housing units were started in the U.S., witnessing an increase of 3.2%
compared to 2018.
